BOOKCLUB APP
Book Club recommends books to read with your friends. Users link up their Goodreads account, see a list of their friends, select at least one other person, and then get recommendations for a book to read that best fits the group’s collective taste. Watch the video above to see how it works.
The Process
Book Club is a side project that I’ve been building with my partner, Amy Bickerton. We worked out the interaction design together and I am coding the app using Xcode. Together, we refined the design and established a feature set for an initial release. We started with a simple user flow that led to wireframe designs. While I began to code the app, Amy finalized the visual design and delivered redlines.
Adventures In Coding
Before starting this project, I had basic iOS coding skills. Once Amy and I decided what the main flow of the app would be, I worked out what information the app needed from the Goodreads API. I developed a data model that would become the foundation for the app. With lots of help from online tutorials, working nights and weekends, we have a speedy app that gives good book recommendations!
Next Steps
We have a working prototype of the app, with LookBack integrated for gathering feedback from beta users. We’re currently testing the app with two real-life book clubs and hope to submit to the app store soon.
